Khushida’s Light: From Captivity to Courage
In a quiet village in West Bengal, Khushida was known not just for her intricate zari embroidery, but for the calm resilience that marked her presence. A skilled artisan and loving daughter, she stepped out one day to collect her wages from a local contractor—and never returned.
Her sudden disappearance sent ripples of fear through her family and community. Days turned into weeks, as hope wavered and the silence deepened. Every path they followed led to a dead end—until a single phone call changed everything.
A Voice from the Shadows
The call came from an unknown man in GB Road, Delhi—an area tragically known for being a hub of human trafficking. He claimed to have met Khushida on the second floor of a building there. He had entered as a customer—but left as an ally.
In a moment of unimaginable courage, Khushida had confided in him. She revealed that she had been trafficked, beaten, and sold into sexual slavery. She pleaded with him to inform her family and help her escape. Moved by her desperation and strength, he made that life-saving call.
The Road to Justice Begins
With support from Goranbose Gram Bikash Kendra (GGBK), Khushida’s mother swiftly filed a General Diary Entry (GDE) at the local police station. Recognized as an interstate trafficking case, it triggered coordinated efforts between state departments, law enforcement, and legal aid organizations.
After tireless advocacy and pressure, the main accused—Sova—was arrested. It marked a vital breakthrough, not just in Khushida’s case, but in the larger fight against trafficking in the region.
A Survivor. A Leader. A Beacon of Hope.
Rescue was not the end of Khushida’s story—it was the beginning of her transformation.
Today, Khushida is a survivor turned leader. Now married and a proud mother of two, she is determined to give her children the future she once feared she had lost. She heads a Survivors’ Collective—a group of formidable women who have emerged from unspeakable trauma with unshakable strength.
Through community mobilization, legal literacy sessions, and awareness campaigns, Khushida is helping to rewrite the story for others who once felt voiceless. Her journey stands as a testament to resilience—and a powerful reminder that freedom is not just a destination, but a continuous act of reclaiming dignity and justice.
Why Her Story Matters
Khushida’s courage challenges the silence that allows trafficking to thrive. Her leadership inspires others to speak out, seek justice, and rebuild. At GGBK, we are proud to stand beside survivors like her—amplifying their voices and walking with them on the path from survival to empowerment.
Even in the darkest of places, the light of courage can show the way forward. Khushida is living proof.
