Shilpa became a victim of trafficking

Shilpa became a victim of trafficking

Shilpa became a victim of trafficking when she was 14 years old. She was taken away from her family and was sold into sex work. After 5 years, with the help of GGBK and authorities, Shilpa returned to her family. By then, her parents have aged considerably and lost all means of income. Along with the members of GGBK, Shilpa started knocking many doors in order to garner adequate compensation and support for the livelihood of her family. Unfortunately nobody responded to her call. She started to look for a job in desperation. Wherever Shilpa went, she was greeted with humiliation for her past as a sex worker. Apart from that her trafficker started threatening her family in order to disrupt the ongoing investigation. Being unable to bear her tumultuous present and seeing even a bleaker future ahead, Shilpa returned to her agonising past which she was trying to forget all these years. She was compelled to start sex work...

Home is where the heart is

Home is where the heart is

URGENT! PLEASE CONTRIBUTE NOW! ‘Home is where the heart is.' Every dream begins at home. It's the place for rest and rejuvenation, to forget the troubles of the world and to start anew. Losing home is losing your roots. The life of the homeless is undefinable by words. Such is the case for many survivors if human trafficking who have lost their homes in Amphan Super-cyclone during the covid-19 pandemic. In many instances, their houses have been ransacked by the perpetrators, who have taken their necessary belongings. Once a place for dreams have turned into the house of fear. Without proper shelter survival is becoming difficult day by day. To rebuild these homes to their original state, proper funding is absolutely crucial. We GGBK, along with the Survivors have knocked many doors for contribution. However it's still not enough to transform the houses of fear to the houses of dream. Therefore we appeal to all of you for standing by the survivors and contribute. Today...

The recognition from the highest office

The recognition from the highest office

Perhaps the greatest honour of all is to be recognized by the Honourable Prime Minister of India. Yesterday was ILFAT's first anniversary of its foundation. Indian Leadership Forum against Trafficking, as we all know is a National Platform consisting of various Survivor led Collectives across the country. The purpose of this platform is to challenge the evil of Human Trafficking nationally, empower the survivors to become better leaders, form a co-ordination between different state level survivor collectives and to act as a liaison between different Government Authorities and grassroot level collectives. The platform has one simple mission-- the eradication of Human Trafficking from the country. BandhanMukti Survivors Collective under our mentorship has blossomed into an integral part of ILFAT. We, Goranbose Gram Bikash Kendra having witnessed the everyday struggle and growth of these warriors couldn't have felt more proud! Yesterday was a humbling experience for all of us as a congratulatory message from the Honorable Prime Minister reached the representatives of...

Neeta and Geeta are two sisters

Neeta and Geeta are two sisters. One of them is 15 while the other is 17. Both of them work at a fireworks factory. Despite the danger involved, the hunger in their stomachs forces them to keep working. They don’t get proper wages for this work. Often the owner makes them work much more that the paltry wages they are given. One day they meet another girl named Parul there. They quickly become close friends and decide to take a trip together to Parul’s sister-in-law in Kolkata’s Sealdah area. They are welcomed by her with a plate of cakes and cold water. The rest is all hazy. After regaining consciousness, Neeta discovered that they had been trafficked, there is no sign of Geeta. She found herself locked inside a room in a trafficking area in Pune. Unknown to Neeta, Geeta had been kept in a nearby room. Their fortunes opened up when a police raid took place there. Geeta was rescued...

Women empowerment

NO NO!!! She is not just a ordinary girl!! She has more power than us, more courage than us. Let's hear about her today.... She is Sanjana (name changed) from a little rural community of South 24 Parganas. She was trafficked and rescued from a state out of West Bengal, reintegrated and reunified in her community, received counselling and mental health treatment support from Goranbose Gram Bikash Kendra/GGBK. During the pandemic situation she found herself in extreme risk. She could not understand how to meet the need of her family, treatment expenses for her father and all. This time GGBK provided emergency support to the survivors of human trafficking like Sanjana. Sanjana is a very strong girl, with the emergency support she started a small business, a little tea cum snacks shop. During this dual crisis #Womenempowerment, #Rebuilding and #Rehabilitation support is ongoing. #Humantrafficking, #Childabuse and other exploitation is increasing even in this pandemic but empowering women and the vulnerable community not left behind. We have to support this survivors so...
