Let’s build a society based on trust and respect.

As per the community planning and needs we held gender sensitivity training in the Goranbose Village. The participants were the inhabitants. From the training, we are in the process of formulating a plan for the creation of a livelihood model that is to be developed by the community. Also, a pilot Gender-Sensitive planning will be developed and share in analysis form with stakeholders. Such workshops are key to create a progressive environment. Read Our Blog ...

Come what may, we will stand together.

Come what may, we will stand together.

Recently we have conducted an experiential training on disaster management. The main focus was to prepare the people against incidents of the flood. We trained the residents in practical hand-holding support. Such training will continue in the future. It is necessary to train ourselves in the four phases of disaster management-- Mitigation, Preparedness, Response, and Recovery. Read Our Blog ...

A historic verdict indeed

A historic verdict indeed

A historic verdict indeed. According to Kolkata High Court's recent mandate, all activities that are apparently hampering the biodiversity of Sunderbans will be prohibited hereafter. We, members of Goranbose Gram Bikash Kendra, are partially welcoming this verdict. Why? Because it highlights only one half of the problem. Our thoughts about this verdict can be summed up at best through the words of our mentor Nihar Ranjan Raptan โ€œI am afraid to say, this is only a partial method to ensure biodiversity. We have to remember that Sunderbans have people too. Their economic conditions are getting poorer day by day. Many of them depend upon the forest for livelihood. In my opinion, the first step should be to find sustainable and eco-friendly means of livelihood for the residents of Sundarbans, so that they stop taking resources from the forestโ€ฆ.โ€ Nihar Sir had worked and is still working tirelessly for the people of Sundarbans. The glimpses of his journey can be found in his periodical...

โ€˜The times they are a changingโ€ฆโ€™

Tafteesh as we all know is a coalition of survivors of human trafficking, lawyers, social workers, probation officers, psychologists, researchers, and human rights activists. Its main aim is to empower survivors of human trafficking to claim justice. There are numerous survivor collectives like Bandhanmukti Survivors' Collective and like-minded organizations like GGBK, fighting for the rights of the survivors through Tafteesh. Victim compensation for the survivors is something that always gets lost in the bureaucratic procedures. However, we are delighted to know that the victim compensation orders were passed for two trafficking survivors, Anupama and Kashmira. The petition to provide compensation to each of them by filed DLSA lawyers. This marks the beginning of a systemic change as more state-level lawyers are willingly taking up the cases of the survivors than private lawyers. This is also building accountability for all the stakeholders involved. It is a long road ahead. But we believe that change will come! Read Our Blog ...

They are growing!!

They are growing!!

It is an utter delight to see the seeds which were provided to localities as a part of the fundraising campaign led by Indian Leadership Forum Against Trafficking, Bandhanmukti Survivors' Collective, Tafteesh and other survivors' collectives across India, are finally bearing their fruits. GGBK supported in the facilitation and organising this endeavour. Sundarbans, as we all are aware of, has saline soil and water. Therefore it's extremely difficult to grow crops here. However, impossible is nothing! After getting the seeds, the farmers have started working with their homegrown vegetables andโ€ฆsome of them are growing faster than usual! Hard work always makes miracles! We are planning for more such endeavors in the future. Organic Farming is the solution! Read Our Blog ...
